I’ve Gone Country

15 10 2008

It’s official.

Just give me some Kenny, some Jackson, some Paisely, and maybe a little bit of Brooks and I’ll be happy. It don’t seem to matter anymore. I’ve gone country.

I should have seen this coming. My family’s been on the cowboy side of life for years now. But I always stuck it out on my own mellow scene, completely content with Sufjan and any bit of atypical relaxant music I could get my hands on..bonus points if nobody had ever heard of ‘em. Because it wasn’t something I was hearing on XTU every second of the day, I liked it.

But get this. Now that I’m away from home, I’m tapping back into those roots. For some reason, I crave it.

Doing the dishes earlier got me going all “suds in the bucket.”

Walking back to my building..”All I wanted was a car.”

Hanging out in the room made me realize that I got friends..in low places.

The best part about it all: I don’t mind. Country seems to be a dying breed these days. It needs a revival. Like all those references I just made – probably meaningless if you don’t have your daily dose of geetar and twang (And I’m assuming you don’t, but feel free to prove me wrong)

Me? I definitely get my dose of that around here even though I’m no longer at home. The roommates..yeah. They’re hardcore country. (Almost oxymoronic eh?)

Seriously, I didn’t fully appreciate the goods ’til I got here. Now it’s the cool thing to listen to…and secretly sing to when I’m alone in the room.

Trust me. Makes you see life differently, more wholesomely. I’m more carefree. I can drink my coffee without sugar now, diss alarm clocks at 7 am, and leave toilet seats up without walking away with a guilty conscience.

You’re good for the soul country. So go tell Biggie Smalls he’s been replaced. There’s a new star in this ‘little big town,’ this ‘flatt’, ‘urban’ ‘underwood.’ Don’t believe me?

Let me show you this new hat I bought.
